I'm pretty faithful customer of this place, and the food is usually really awesome. However, my last order left me disappointed, if not a little offended. My scallion pancakes were really undercooked and stuffed into a small container until they formed one big ball. My ramen was under-portioned and also undercooked by no small amount. The consistency of quality is a big issue with this place, and many locals agree. It's fantastic food when the person making it actually puts forth the effort.Please talk to your back of house staff about preparation and consistent products because I really want to eat here again but don't want somethinf carelessly thrown together.

Food was really good. The scallion pancakes are phenomenal. The customizability of the food is great. My one knock on the place is its so dark inside. We weren't sure if it was open or not

A bit pricey for a noodle bowl but they are in a downtown location so that may explain it. Tasty and fresh and it hits the spot if you're into the category! :-)

Wonderful staff and food! I'm never disappointed and I love how customizable the noodle dish is! There's lots of great options and they even have vegetarian options. You get to choose wherever you want to sit and they have board games as well. My favorite combination is beef broth, ramen noodles, with beef and sauteed onions. And the normal toppings it comes with of course.

Wonderful little bar in Bangor. I was visiting from Detroit, my friend and I tried out a few other spots, but Umami was the only place serving food late. It was delicious! As good or better than the noodle joints in Detroit. The bartender was fun, the atmosphere was great, I highly recommend Umami.

I got take out, which was very good as far as the flavor, textures, and so forth. I'd seen someone with their noodles the day before. Because the noodles are packed down in the bottom of a tightly filled plastic container, with the vegies and meat or tofu on top, it is hard to mix them evenly. The broth comes separately in it's own container. I'd asked for an extra container to give me room to mix the stuff and pour the broth a bit at a time. That would have made a difference, but it didn't get put in the bag and I forgot to check. If eating in it probably would be easy to get a bigger bowl or something. Likewise if you are bringing it home or somewhere with dishes, even a kitchenette, the packaging for take out would not be a problem. The person who waited on me was very efficient and pleasant. I would definitely get food there again if I had limited time and wanted something both tasty and healthy.

An absolute gem in downtown Bangor; the crispy tofu, fresh shaved carrots, crunchy sprouts, and I've never tasted a better veggie broth; vegetarian dining is no longer a compromise in taste.

Good and healthy options. Good comfort food on a cold day. Definitely going back!

This is such a good place to get Umani. I enjoy eating there. You can bring children. Today I saw 2 families with kids. Adults can have a beer with dinner. Wilson the chef does a great job and is fun to chat with. You should go!!!

Food is always good and workers are always extremely nice and helpful. I go late at night so there aren't many people so it's very relaxing and such a nice, quiet atmosphere.

I grew up overseas in China and whenever I miss the food I go to Umami for a bowl of rice noodles. American Chinese food and Chinese food are VERY different but Umami hits the mark with these noodles.

The pork belly ramen is fantastic. It's very well prepared. The decor leaves something to be desired, but the noodles are spot on.

This place is my addiction! Make your own noodle bowls or try some delicious staff favorites. Either way, it's ALL delicious!

Get the pork belly. Don't ask questions just get it. Gyoza are good too.

Amazing food with large portions! Flexible create your own bowls. Small selection for things besides noodles and under renovation when I visited but atmosphere was still nice and service was quick! Definitely coming back!

The food was great, the decor leaves something to be desired. Everything looks either shoddily put together (booth upholstery) or dingy. I will go back since the food is so good, but a good cleaning and fresh coat of paint would really make a difference.

Wow this place has the best noodles ever the vegan one is just amazing worth the money alittle expensive but so.taisty and alot its a huge plastic bowl thing that they give to you and its pretty filling the vegan one i think is the best one you should try that one mmmmm

A looking time ago this place was great. Then minimum wage increased for the state and they increased their prices... But decreased their quality and effort. I get slapped together bowls often and a less than supportive experience at the front desk. Ultimately, there aren't any other choices in the area, and the food IS GOOD! However, it is a shadow of what it used to be.

Great place last time I went. Idk now, since my family only eats the same THREE FOOD ITEMS EVERY WEEK AND REFUSES TO TRY NEW THINGS. Good prices, cool atmosphere, laidback and friendly staff, which I love to see. Prices have gone up just a little but nothing too outrageous. Sick lighting outside to film parts of YouTube videos under too.

Food was good but someone had apparently been allowed to set up residence in the restaurant (based on the amount of personal belongings he had with him and the fact that they were not eating) anyway, he was passing the time by accosting customers as they waited for their meals. Did not make for a very pleasant atmosphere. He never was asked to leave... at least not while I was there.

The price wasn't bad. The food was pretty good. Friendly service.

Hi there soup and noodle fans. I went to this establishment for a great bowl of soup and I can say the toppings were good but the broth needs a little more flavor other than that the only other things I really was hoping for was a bigger bowl of soup with more noodles and a bigger cup of the Thai ice tea for the price being paid. Other than that the dining was open and clean and friendly I will definitely eat here again and I suggest you try it as well

Fantastic broths, copious vegetarian and vegan options (including notably outstanding tofu) in a cavernous space. Solid options for drinks as well, and easy take out.

Disengaged staff. No help to my two companions having trouble understanding the menu. Ordered our food, explained my food allergy in depth to be sure it was conveyed accurately. Food arrived, no one mentioned where utensils were or that they had sauces for the food. And my food came with the scallions I am allergic to, mixed into my food. When I approached the kitchen person, his comment was that the kitchen had been busy. Couldn't be avoided. I won't be back

This is a lovely place with a good relaxed atmosphere and great food. The staff is very friendly and there are a lot of customization options for noodle bowls, including vegan and vegetarian options. Umami Noodle Bar adds a nice touch of flavor and diversity to the Bangor food scene. If I were a local again I would be a regular.

Me and my boyfriend went there and the only thing I didn't like was the carrots in my ramen. Also the guy working there reminded me of Robin Williams. Great atmosphere, will go back again.

It's a great place to get Japanese noodles. The ramen is fully customizable and quite delicious. The portions are large and contain fresh vegetables. Whenever we are in the mood for ramen, we go there.

First time there and we had very entertaining customer service, not sure if this is the norm but I am sure the awesome food is! Very affordable and hearty soup makes the winter better! There is a parking garage adjacent that is free (no permit needed) after 5 pm which made parking easy. Check it out!

Good choices, staff, and atmosphere. A good place to go with groups of any kind. Kinda cold during winter but the hot soup warms you up quickly. It's fast and not super expensive. Overall a good experience. (The pictures are from after we dug into our delicious meal)

Wife and I love this place, a bit pricey (I get all the fixings and she gets a basic bowl) and it's like 30 bucks for us. But it is filling and the staff are awesome

An amazing find!! We took a stop in Bangor and were trying to find good restaurants. And we ended up eating here. The noodles are really tasty, great customization options for the noodles. The scallion pan cakes were delicious. A very well maintained place with yummy food and affordable pricing.
